Sold in Norway 🇳🇴, this beautiful BMW M5 E39 from 1999. According to many BMW fans, the last real M5 (1998-2003). A pure sports car, without complicated computer systems, but with a big V8 with 400 hp and manual gearbox.
Background
The BMW M5 E39 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998. While the E28 M5 (282 hp) and the E34 M5 (311 hp) had another 3.5 liter six-in-line, the most powerful version of the E39 received a 4941 cc large V8. A true gun, the V8 gave 400 hp at 6600 rpm and 500 Nm between 3800 and 5000 rpm. With tight handling, a 0-100 km/h time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed that would exceed 300 km/h without a limiter (250 km/h), BMW showed that a business sedan can be very sporty. The car completed a lap of the Nürnburgring in 8 minutes and 20 seconds. The E39 M5 was only available with a six-speed manual transmission. The same transmission that was also in the 540i, albeit somewhat reinforced. Something BMW Motorsport also did with the chassis and body. In addition to lowering the car by 2.3 cm, the brand added heavier anti-roll bars and tightened the suspension. The E39 M5 had a sport button that improved throttle response. There was also Servotronic that adjusted the power steering to the speed of the car. Nice technology for that time. Unlike its predecessors, the fastest E39 was born on the same production line as the regular 5 Series. BMW was therefore able to increase production considerably. A total of 20,482 units were built.
